— THEME INSTALLATION —

STEP #1:
Extract the iView.zip file on your PC using WinRAR. WinRAR is a popular shareware file archiver and data compression utility. You can get the free version at http://www.rarlab.com

STEP #2:
After you unzip the iView.zip, upload the complete folder of the theme to http://yoursite.com/wp-content/themes. FTP-client can do this task for you. We recommend filezilla. It is free and you can get a free copy at http://filezilla-project.org/

STEP #3:
5 required plugins needed and there are attached in the zip file. Please upload them all to http://yoursite.com/wp-content/plugins.

STEP #4:
Login to your blog admin panel, click the “Plugins” tab and activate Smart Youtube, WP-PostRatings, WP-PostViews, WP Page Numbers and BlogStats PCC.

STEP #5:
Click the “Settings” tab and click Smart Youtube.
1. Tick show border and autoplay videos
2. To fit the smart youtube plugin with our layout, set the width of video in normal mode and high quality mode to 707 and set the height of video in normal mode and high quality mode to 400

STEP #6:
Click the “Ratings” tab and click “Rating Options”.
1. Select “squares” rating style. This one best fit with our layout. Then set 5 as max ratings, click “update individual rating text/value display” and click the save changes button.
2. Remove the default ratings templates variables and replace with the following code. Important.

STEP #7:
Click the “Settings” tab and click Page Number. Select “classic” and click the update setting button.

STEP #8:
Click the “Settings” tab and click PostViews. Select count views from everyone and replace default view template variables with the following
Views: <strong>%VIEW_COUNT%</strong>

STEP #9:
Login to your blog admin panel, click the “Appearance” tab and activate the iView theme.

— HOW TO ADD A POST —

1. When you want to display Youtube video in your post, copy the video URL to your post and change http:// to httpv:// (notice the ‘v’ character)

The video will be automatically embedded to your post in the proper way.

Example: httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9szn1QQfas

If you want to post a high quality/HD video  you would use httpvh:// (’vh’ for video high)

2. Add a custom field: thumb and paste there your movie thumb URL. Technically you don’t have to upload the thumbnail to your server. You can grab it automatically from youtube’s server.
Example, for movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9szn1QQfas, the thumb url for this movie is http://img.youtube.com/vi/L9szn1QQfas/2.jpg

3. Select category, add TAG and you are done.

STEP #2:
After you unzip the gallerine.zip, upload the complete folder of the theme to http://yoursite.com/wp-content/themes. FTP-client can do this task for you. We recommend filezilla. It is free and you can get a free copy at http://filezilla-project.org/

STEP #3:
4 required plugins needed and there are attached in the zip file. Please upload them all to http://yoursite.com/wp-content/plugins.

STEP #4:
Login to your blog admin panel, click the “Plugins” tab and activate BlogStats PCC, WordPress Download Monitor, WP-PostRatings and WP Page Numbers.

STEP #5:
Click the “Downloads” tab and click “Configuration”.
1. Add the following format
– Name: download
– format: <a href=”{url}” title=”Downloaded {hits} times”>DOWNLOAD</a> [ {hits} ]
2. Add the following format
– Name: popular
– format: <a href=”{url}” title=”gallerine”>gallerine</a> – downloaded {hits} times
3. Set the custom download url ( optional )

STEP #7:

STEP #8:
Login to your blog admin panel, click the “Appearance” tab and activate the gallerine theme.

— HOW TO ADD A POST —

1. You have to add the zip file first ( for tracking purposes ) using download monitor plugin before you add a post. Click the “Downloads” tab and click “Add New”. Remember the ID of the zip file when done. You will need this info soon.

2. Now you can start add a new post. Click the “Add an Image” button, select the screenshot of the theme ( 300px witdh and 225px height ) from your computer, fill in the required info and click “Insert into Post”. You can put the theme preview url as Link URL or just simple leave it blank.

3. View it in visual mode and add [download id=”xxx” format=”2″]. Still remember the ID for the zip file that you add in step 1? Replace the xxx with the ID.

4. Add a custom field: demo and paste there the theme preview url.

5. Add another custom field for the same post: thumbnail and paste there the theme thumbnail URL ( 150px width and 150px height ). Technically you don’t have to create a new thumbnail and upload to your server. The “add an image” inbuild fuction that you are using just now already create the 150×150 thumbnail for you and stored somewhere in http://yourblogurl.com/wp-content/uploads/.

6. Select category, add TAG and you are done.

WPCandy has just announced a new project called Theme Finder. It allows users to pick out WordPress themes “visually” through a number of criteria including by color, free or paid, and layout.

My Feedback

At the moment there are a solid number of themes in the database and according to the announcement post, there should be “tons” more on the way. Right now most of the themes are commercial, so it would be nice to see more of an even mix with free themes as well.

With an even greater number of themes, it may be a bit difficult to scroll through all of them. It may be useful to have a feature that will group all like themes together on top of the highlighting feature.

Even still, it should be a much quicker way of finding a new theme for your (or a client’s) site, as opposed to the old method of browsing through several different sites trying to find a suitable theme.

So check out Theme Finder and give it a try.
