Maintanence on your 1st visit – New WordPress Installation

Everytime you install WordPress there are a few things that you should do right away before you do anything else. This video will cover these things starting from the top of the dashboard navigation and working our way down. In the Posts section, remove the “Hello, World” post. It’s really easy to forget it’s there and without question, some visitor is going to find it and be confused. Just get rid of it. Now move to the Links section and click on All Links. Click the box to select all links and then, under bulk actions, choose to delete the links and then apply. After all, it doesn’t make sense to have links on your site that have nothing to do with you. Next move to the pages section and delete the sample page that comes automatically with WordPress. The final section this video covers is plugins. WordPress comes with two plugins pre-installed. Akismet is an excellent spam prevention program that helps minimize spam comments on your site. Unfortunately, Akismet has a monthly charge associated with it and there are some free options that are pretty much just as effective. Therefore, you can safely remove Akismet. You can always add it back later if you choose to. Hello Dolly is the very first plugin ever created for WordPress and is only included for the sake of nostalgia.
