PageLines DMS is Pretty Cool (and free)

I’ll admit, I was skeptical about this at first. They delayed the launch a couple times because of a “hacking” that erased all of their files. They constantly teased it on their blog for the past couple weeks. But it was finally released, and I must say, I’m impressed.

First of all, it’s basically a free theme. You can download and try it out right now (the download link is currently available on the PageLines homepage). I go over my experience with it in the video below.

Some key points

• WordPress’ Theme Customizer is disabled (understandably)
• DMS stands for “Design Management System”
• It has a responsive, drag & drop 12-column grid system.
• You adjust grid columns by clicking the left and right arrows
• There are a number of free sections you can place into your site
• There are also a number of Pro-only sections, and other paid addons in the Store
• They’re definitely not shy about asking you to upgrade to the Pro version (which starts at $8/month)
• Overall, it’s pretty cool, and you should at least try it out locally (like I did in my video)

Conclusion

There’s definitely a slight learning curve. I still haven’t got through all the available free sections you can place on your site, let alone the Pro-only and other paid ones. Sections make it easy to drag and drop various site elements like text boxes, photo galleries, and other things of that nature.

Also, you can change the logo by going to Global Settings → NavBar → NavBar Image. Like I said in the video, I’d probably just call that a logo. But it’s not really that big of a deal once you get the hang of it.
