In this series we are going to create a custom WordPress theme from scratch. We will learn how to create WordPress themes, use advanced features such as: custom post types, custom fields and meta data. We will be focusing our theme on a site based on a site like Kongregate.com or Armorgames.com. I do like the idea, although it is a pretty advanced topic that may not be suited for this series’ targeted audience. I? would love to eventually develop my own theme options panel and then do a few videos on how to integrate it within your themes – although every theme is different.
We’ll just have to wait and see after this series I believe. I’m anxious to see what I do, as well!

Great, looking forward? to more tutorials 🙂 PS: I think an admin options panel would be fun – either using a framework or wiring it from scratch.

I have read this post in the past and? I appreciate you digging it up. As stated, we did use the most basic, least efficient method for modifying/filtering a query. Although we made sure to reset when we closed the loop, it would be a good idea to teach the best methods.
I chose the query_posts method to try and get the logic across, but I believe the next video we will cover WP_Query.
Thanks for bringing that up!

Cool series – just quickly looked over it but will be watching them over the holidays. Perhaps a good read regarding query_posts and why it’s recommended not to use it. developer.wordpress(dot)com/2012/05/14/querying-posts-without-query_posts/
Let me? know what your thoughts are.

Thanks, Funnyshizz! Did the code integrate? smoothly for you?

The file you have downloaded is a .RAR file. This file has to be opened with a special program, and then extracted to uncompress the? files. I didn’t even think to mention this in the video, so I’ll mention it now! 🙂
Using Windows: I suggest WinRAR (Google it)
Using Mac: RAR Expander seem popular. (Google it)
Hope this helps,
Austin

I do not currently have plans for a Theme Options panel tutorial, but that’s a pretty good idea.
About the plugins: At the current state of our theme, we will not be able to support many plugins due? to the simple fact that we do not actually have any page or posts templates. Are there any specific plugins you’re referring to? Most should use our functions.php and our wp_head hook.

great tut! i also wanted to ask if i can hope for future tutorials on? making a theme options page so if i add admins they can make updates without knowing code? also how to get wp to run installed plugins correctly?

when i download it it says that i dont have the available apps to read these files i? have a mac im assuming thats why? is there a way around this?

I’m honestly not sure what part of the theme we should tackle next. We? may have to handle some back end stuff and that’s always fun.

I really like the way you handled this one. I think this way? provided more opportunity to examine the code. Nice job. What’s next on the agenda?

Wow, nice tut man! I like the? way your not just throwing the code at us, instead you go in depth. Great work : )
January 10th, 2013 at 5:49 pm
this way the code was better
thank? you

Hello Krim! Did this work for you? Did the code and everything integrate smoothly? I was really hesitant about doing this tutorial? differently but I feel it was the most efficient method.
Thanks for all of the support!
