Search engines index heading tags and weight their? importance by the tag number. H1 is most important and usually reserved for page and post titles. H2 is next most important and generally used as section headers. For top SEO, it’s best to place keywords in the H1 and place it at the top of the page. If you can, use keywords in the H2 tags, but only if it will not negatively impact your copy. You don’t want your pages and posts to look like they were written by a machine for a machine

One other thing I just discovered on a client’s site. If your theme does not support custom menus, then? you might end up with two Home buttons after following the video instructions. There are plugins that are specifically for adding custom menu creation to your theme, if you need one.

Great instructional video. In your opinion, where should the H1 and H2 tags? be placed for the HomePage? Thanks!

Once you create your two new static pages for Home and Blog, you’ll need to go to the Settings > Reading page as shown in the video and select your front page and your posts? page. It’s probably still set to the default of “Your latest posts” as the front page of your site, which is why you’re seeing two Home buttons in your navigation.

If you’re using a static page as your home page, to show your latest post, you’ll need to look for a theme that allows for a widget at the top, or have the theme customized to show your featured post there. Widgets to? show things like your featured post can actually be placed in several areas of your site, but not all themes have that option. A code site customizer who works with what are known as hooks and the loop can place a widget area just about anywhere.
