I had some issues installing on Windows 8 pro 64, thought i would let you know how to get round them.
1st prob i had is that the in the control panel the services were listed with a big red X next to each service. If you simply click on each of the red X you will be given an option to install that service.
2nd prob I had? was after installing the Apache service my control panel would crash with error “permission denied” when attempting to start the service. Resolved this issue with a reboot.

my Apache stops as soon as I start it. How do I fix? it?
December 22nd, 2012 at 9:08 am
It?s a known issue that if Skype was installed before XAMPP it will occupy port 80 which is the port that XAMPP needs to communicate with your Internet connection. There?s an easy fix for this problem.
Solution : Open up Skype and go to Tools and select Options. From the list that appears select Advanced and then? Connection. There will probably be a check mark inside where it says ?Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections? just unchecked that box and save your changes.

Important: many times you? can not run apache or mysql because other programs are using the same ports (for an example Skype use the port 80 like apache!!!)…so close the programs 😉

If you are using Windows 7, a message will pop-up, just? click continue. Or you can try to right-click and run as an administrator. Sometimes Windows gets a little picky for certain programs. If all else fails try re-installing XAMPP.

Thanks. You might want to? check with your firewall settings. Sometimes your firewall can block that particular port.
December 22nd, 2012 at 9:08 am
Make sure your firewall is? not blocking XAMPP from running.
