www.dennisonwolfe.com – A complete WordPress tutorial on Categories. WordPress categories are for Posts (useful for organizing blog posts, events, news, PR and other time-sensitive content). We look at creating categories, repurposing the default “Uncategorized” category, adding sub-categories, using quick edit to put Posts into categories, and the Categories widget.

Great tutorial however the one thing I was really needing to se is how the page itself was done so that your? categories / post index is displayed in the main content area.

Hi champton321 – if you are going to use sub-categories, why not just link to each sub-category, and not the main category? That way, your posts you want to show are confined? to that particular sub-category. Linking to them would be really easy with the WordPress 3.0+ Menu functionality. Does this help?

I noticed that when you clicked on the Services category,? it showed ALL posts that were posted under the category AND its subcategories. This is what’s happening on my site as well. The issue is that I don’t want that. Is there a way you can somehow get it to where the site will only show posts from their respective categories without going into the actual code? I’m sure you could code it to do that, but the thing is I don’t know PHP, it reads like gibberish to me.

What I think you are asking is:? When you create categories, not all of them show up on the website.
This is because categories only show up if you have at least one post in that category. To test this, create a new post and add it to ALL of the categories. Then Save, and see if the categories now all show up on your site – each of them should have that new post listed.

hi

can u tell me why?

that’s a good suggestion, thank you – i kept my face up there because these tutorials? are specifically for our clients, and they appreciate the personal touch to our service. But I agree that it takes up important screen space, so maybe I’ll just do an intro to start things out for future videos.
