Neapolitan – Free WordPress Theme

June 1st, 2009 by admin

Today we have another template from DemusDesign called Neapolitan, which I then ported into WordPress. This theme is coded for WordPress 2.7 and above only. It has four widgetized areas, including a widgetized footer. The widgets, as well as some other features will be gone over below.

And now onto the features…

Page Menu

Since this is a pretty unconventional navigation menu, I figured it would probably be best to code this part in a theme options page, and not use the default WordPress page listing template tags at all. To access the theme options page, go to Appearance → Neapolitan Options.

Neapolitan Theme Options

You’ll notice room for six page links in the theme options page. I tested this out, and due to the width of the navigation area, there wouldn’t be any room for more than six.

Just fill in the anchor text, as well as the full URL you want to link to. This normally would link to WordPress pages, although you can use these to link wherever you want.

By default, page link #1 will link to the homepage. You can leave this blank if you want to keep the Home link. Page numbers 2-6 simply won’t show up if left blank.

Widgetized Areas

As mentioned above, this theme has four widgetized areas. There is one in the sidebar, and three in the footer (left, middle, right). The following diagram will illustrate where exactly these widgetized areas are located.

Subtitles

Similar to the Bolshevik theme (also designed by DemusDesign) this theme also had room for post subtitles, so I figured I’d integrate that in a similar fashion.

Neapolitan Post Settings

Simply type the subtitle you want for each post or page, and it will displayed in brown text directly below the regular title. Keep in mind, this is completely optional, and if you don’t want them just keep it blank.

Conclusion

Thank you to Calítoe.:. who requested this theme to be ported. This template is actually one of DemusDesign’s older templates. I tried to port this theme in the past, but eventually decided to put it on the backburner for a while since I couldn’t figure out a good way to integrate the top numbered navigation menu.

Thanks to theme options pages, hopefully you all find this to be a suitable solution. Anything is better than editing actual code, right?

That should be everything. Hope you all like the theme. Let me know what you think in the comments.
