Underwater – Free WordPress Theme
->
This theme is called Underwater, ported from a beautiful free template designed by DemusDesign. It was coded specifically for WordPress 2.7 and above, so it will not work with previous WordPress versions without modification. It features comment threading and pagination, four widget-ready areas, among a few other features that will be gone over below.
And now to the rest of the features…
Widget-Ready Areas
As mentioned above, this theme has four different widget-ready areas. The first is located in the sidebar. The other three are located in the footer, named Footer Left, Footer Middle, and Footer Right. The diagram below illustrates where exactly these areas are located in the theme.

Theme Options
I tried not to go too overboard with this, so the options page only gives you control over a couple different aspects of the theme. The first is the “About this site” text, visible on every page in the footer. The second controls the display of the “Share This Post” box on single post pages.
As you can see, it’s pretty self explanatory. Just type the text you want in the boxes to override the about text, and check the box if you’d rather not have the built-in post sharing enabled. Thanks to Dan for this post on the Theme Forest blog, which helped me out a lot in creating these theme options.
Share This Post
On single posts, you’ll notice the “Share This Post” box which allows your readers to link to your content via various social networks. At the moment, it has links to share/bookmark the post on StumbleUpon, Facebook, Twitter, and Delicious. I’d like to credit these two recipes by Jean-Baptiste Jung for the Twitter and Delicious links.
It is possible to add and/or remove different social sites, although at the moment it would require manual code editing. You’d also have to know how a specific social site forms these submission links.
Currently, there is no way to disable the “Share This Post” box on specific posts through the post menu. If anyone has any ideas on how to accomplish this, I’m all ears. If you’d rather not have the box at all, simply check off the corresponding checkbox in the theme options panel, as mentioned above.
Conclusion
By the way, people who follow me on Twitter got a sneak preview at the Underwater theme about 14 hours ago. So if you don’t already follow me on Twitter, you should.
Remember, it’s been a while since I coded any WordPress themes, so I may be a little rusty. This is also my first WordPress 2.7 theme. If you find any bugs or other errors, feel free to let me know and I’ll do my best to correct them.
Anyway, hope you all like the new theme. Let me know what you think in the comments.
